Corporate insurance
Marine Insurance
Cover for goods in transit — by sea, air, rail or road — from the moment they leave until they arrive.

Who is it for?
Is marine cover right for you?
- Importers and exporters
- Manufacturers moving raw material and finished goods
- Traders, distributors and e-commerce sellers
- Project cargo and machinery movements
What does it help protect?
The risk, in plain English
Goods in transit face risks of accident, theft, handling damage and weather. Marine cargo insurance is designed to pay for physical loss or damage to insured goods during transit, as defined in the policy.
Who arranges insurance depends on the contract of sale — the Incoterms agreed with your buyer or supplier.
Key cover areas

Inland transit
Domestic movement by road and rail.
Open / annual policies
Automatic cover for regular shipments under one policy, with declarations.
Specific voyage policies
Cover for one-off shipments.
Extensions
Options such as war and strikes cover, as available.
What to check
Read this before comparing premiums
The cheapest policy is rarely the one that serves you best at claim time. These are the terms we always check with you.
- Incoterms
- Whether you or the other party is responsible for insuring the goods.
- Clauses
- The scope of cover — all risks or named perils — under the applicable cargo clauses.
- Packing
- Insufficient packing is commonly excluded.
- Basis of valuation
- Typically invoice value plus a margin, agreed in advance.
- Claim notice
- Damage should be noted on delivery receipts and reported promptly.

FAQs
Marine Insurance: common questions
Do we need marine insurance if our supplier says goods are insured?
It depends on the Incoterms. Under some terms the seller insures only to the port of loading or with minimum cover. We review your contracts to identify gaps.
What is an open policy?
An open or annual policy automatically covers all eligible shipments during the year up to agreed limits. You declare shipments as they happen, which avoids buying a policy for every consignment.
Does marine insurance cover delays?
Loss caused by delay is generally excluded from cargo policies. Cover focuses on physical loss or damage to the goods.
What should we do when goods arrive damaged?
Note the damage on the delivery receipt, take photographs, keep packing, notify the insurer immediately and preserve the right to claim from the carrier. We guide you through the survey and documentation.
Can domestic road transit be insured?
Yes. Inland transit cover is available for goods moving by road or rail within India.
