Documents Needed for an Insurance Claim: A Practical Checklist
Most claim delays come from missing paperwork. Here is what insurers commonly ask for, by claim type.

Insurance matters most when something goes wrong — and that is exactly when paperwork feels hardest. Knowing in advance what insurers usually need can make the process calmer and faster.
The exact list depends on the insurer, the policy and the circumstances. The insurer may ask for additional documents. Treat this as a starting point, not a complete list.
First steps for any claim
- Inform the insurer (or us) as soon as reasonably possible — policies set time limits for intimation.
- Note your policy number and keep a copy of the policy schedule.
- Take photographs where relevant and keep all original bills and reports.
- Don't discard damaged items or start repairs before the insurer's process allows.
